Uneven Plaster: Expert Solutions for Smooth Walls in London

Understanding the Problem: Why You Have Uneven Plaster

Finding uneven plaster on your walls or ceilings can be incredibly frustrating, especially after spending time and money on paint or wallpaper. Whether you live in a Victorian terrace in Islington or a modern apartment in Canary Wharf, walls often succumb to wear, moisture, or poor original workmanship. If you notice ripples, waves, or hollow spots, it is time to call a professional plasterer-london to assess the structural integrity of your surfaces.

Common Causes of Uneven Plaster

Settlement Cracking: Older London properties naturally shift over time.
Moisture Damage: Leaks or high humidity often cause plaster to bubble or pull away from the lath.
Poor Preparation: If the underlying base wasn't primed correctly, the skim coat will fail.
Bad Workmanship: Sometimes, it simply comes down to a lack of professional technique during the initial installation.

## FAQ

How can I tell if my plaster needs replacing or just skimming?

If the plaster is hollow when tapped, cracked extensively, or crumbling to the touch, it needs to be removed and replaced. If it is just slightly uneven, a professional skim coat is usually sufficient.

How long does it take to fix uneven plaster in an average London bedroom?

Typically, a skilled plasterer can prepare and skim an average 12x12 bedroom in about two to three days, including drying time.

Can I fix uneven plaster myself?

For very minor hairline cracks, yes. However, achieving a glass-smooth finish on an entire wall requires years of experience. Poor DIY efforts often lead to more cost in the long run.

What is the average Plastering Cost London homeowners should budget for?

Most projects range between £400 and £2,000 depending on the size of the area and the condition of the existing substrate. Always consult our Plastering Cost London page for a more personalised estimate.
