Complete replastering of a 3-bedroom Victorian terrace in Croydon. All walls and ceilings skimmed throughout — 3 bedrooms, 2 reception rooms, hallway, and landing. The property had not been plastered since the 1980s and the existing plaster was heavily cracked, with areas of blown plaster in the hallway and front bedroom.
Challenges Encountered
The main challenge was the condition of the original Victorian plasterwork. Several areas had completely separated from the lath and plaster background, particularly in the front reception room and main bedroom. The high ceilings (2.8m) throughout required scaffold boards for ceiling work. The client needed the property completed within 2 weeks for incoming tenants.
Our Solution
We stripped back all failed plasterwork to sound base, applied Thistle BondingPlus to the lath backgrounds, and then skim-coated all surfaces. The hallway and stairwell ceiling required new plasterboard in two sections due to lath failure. All rooms were completed in sequence to allow efficient working. Property was completed in 10 working days.
