What is dot and dab? When is it used in London properties? Costs, pros, cons, and alternatives — complete guide.
Dot and dab plasterboard installation in London costs £20–£35 per m² including boards, adhesive and jointing, or around £250–£450 to line a standard wall. It's the standard dry-lining method for fixing plasterboard directly to uneven brick walls before skimming. London Plastering Service covers all 32 boroughs and quotes within 60 minutes.
Dot and dab (also called direct bond) is a dry lining method where plasterboard is fixed directly to a wall using blobs of bonding adhesive — without a timber or metal stud frame. The adhesive is applied in a series of "dots and dabs" across the back of the board, which is then pressed against the wall.
It's the most common way to line internal walls in London properties, particularly for creating a flat, skimmable surface over rough or uneven brick walls.
Dot and dab plasterboard installation in London costs approximately £20-£35 per m² including plasterboard, adhesive, and labour. The skim coat (which always follows) costs an additional £10-£15 per m², giving a total of approximately £30-£50 per m² for the complete finished wall.
